Can You Plan Your Own Funeral?

What if you could plan your own funeral?

Or better still, actually be there for it?

It might sound a bit strange, but there are good reasons to think about how you’d like to be remembered and what you’d want your final farewell to look like.

And you don’t have to leave all those decisions to your family.

Planning your funeral in advance

You can work with a celebrant to plan your funeral before it’s needed.

We can talk about:

  • the music you’d like
  • the stories you want told
  • the people you’d like involved
  • and how you want the occasion to feel.

I can then help you create a ceremony plan that reflects your life and personality.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of working with a young man to plan his funeral in advance.

I’m very proud of the work we did together, and I know it helped his wife and loved ones when the time came.

Making some of these decisions yourself can take pressure off your family at a difficult time.

What about a living funeral?

There’s another option too.

A living funeral is a celebration of someone’s life while they’re still here to enjoy it.

Imagine bringing together the people who matter most:

  • sharing memories
  • listening to your favourite music
  • and actually hearing all those lovely things people might otherwise only say after you’ve died.

It could be a party, a gathering over lunch or something smaller and more personal.

There’s no set format.

Do you have to be seriously ill?

No.

You don’t have to be seriously ill to think about planning your funeral, and you don’t have to wait for a particular milestone to organise a living funeral.

Some people simply want to make their wishes clear.

Others want an opportunity to celebrate their life and the people who have been part of it.

A ceremony that’s right for you

Whether you’re thinking about planning ahead or organising a living funeral, I can help you work out what the occasion could look like.

We can talk through the possibilities, decide what matters to you and put together something that reflects your personality.

After all, if there’s one occasion that really should be about you, surely it’s this one?
