Frequently Asked Questions
About Celebrant Services
What exactly is a celebrant?
A celebrant is someone who creates and conducts personalised ceremonies for life's important moments. Unlike registrars who follow legal requirements, or religious leaders who follow specific faiths, celebrants focus entirely on telling your unique story and creating a ceremony that reflects your values, beliefs, and personality.
Are celebrant ceremonies legally binding?
Why choose a celebrant over a registrar or religious leader?
Planning & Timing
How far in advance should I book?
Weddings: I recommend 6-12 months for the full planning process, but I can always accommodate shorter timescales please add - and am happy to work with you on a very short time frame.
Funerals: These often need arranging within days. I always do my best to support families during difficult times, even at very short notice.
Naming ceremonies, vow renewals, other celebrations: Usually 2-6 months gives us plenty of time to plan something special but I can work quickly if needed.
What's included in the planning process?
Every package includes:
- Discovery meeting to understand your vision
- Planning sessions (number varies by ceremony type)
- Completely bespoke ceremony script
- Unlimited revisions until you're completely happy
- Practice sessions for anyone taking part
- Professional ceremony coordination on the day
- Ceremony keepsake pack with printed materials
How long does the planning process take?
This varies depending on the ceremony type and your preferences:
- Initial consultation: Usually 1-2 hours
- Planning meetings: 1-3 sessions of 1-2 hours each
- Script development: 2-3 weeks with revisions
- Final preparations: 1-2 weeks before your ceremony
I work at your pace and adapt the timeline to your needs.
Can you accommodate last-minute changes?
Absolutely. I understand that life doesn't always go according to plan, especially for family ceremonies. We can adapt scripts, timing, or elements right up until the ceremony if needed.

Ceremony Content & Style
What if we don't know what we want in our ceremony?
That's completely normal! During our planning sessions, I'll guide you through options and help you discover what feels right. We'll talk about:
- The tone you want (formal, relaxed, humorous, emotional)
- People you want to involve
- Readings, music, or symbolic elements that appeal to you
- What you definitely don't want included
Can you include religious or spiritual elements?
What about music during the ceremony?
You can include any music that's meaningful to you:
- Live musicians: I can coordinate with performers
- Recorded music: Using venue sound systems or portable speakers
- Singing: Whether professional or friends/family
- No music: If you prefer the focus on spoken words
I'll advise on what works best for your venue and setup.

Working Together
What if we don't feel like we're a good match?
The discovery call is specifically designed to help us both determine if we're a good fit. There's no obligation to book, and I'd rather we both feel confident about working together. If we're not the right match, I can often recommend other celebrants who might be perfect for you.

Can children be involved in ceremonies?

Specific Ceremony Types
What makes funeral ceremonies different from celebrations of life?
- Funeral services: Often more traditional, may include religious elements, usually coordinated with burial or cremation
- Celebrations of life: Focus on joy and memories, less formal, can be held weeks or months later
- Memorial services: Held without the body present, often for people who donated their bodies or were buried elsewhere
I can create any style that feels right for your family.
Can you do ceremonies for same-sex couples?
What about non-traditional relationships?
Do you do ceremonies for children who have died?
